Lamp, Rynearson & Associates earns ACEC Honor Award for Shadow Lake Development
Lamp, Rynearson & Associates Inc., also known as LRA, used land planning, landscape design, civil engineering, construction administration, survey, and 3-D visualization to bring the Shadow Lake subdivision to life for the City of Papillion planning board.

Early in the planning stages, LRA's team and the owner-client recognized that the site's natural features had the potential for a unique, premier neighborhood.

The project included new approaches to two common challenges. Instead of traditional culvert design, large segmental blocks were made part of a Stone Strong retaining wall system. Use of this type of retaining wall system allowed significant reduction of culvert lengths, which minimized impact on the stream channels. Another system benefit was that taller walls could be built to minimize the geosynthetic grids needed in the walls. Geosynthetic grid reinforcements in the walls' upper 8 feet allowed LRA to put utilities and water lines over the tops of the culverts without compromising integrity of the geosynthetic grid.

The auxiliary spillway in Shadow Lake Dam provided another design challenge. Because the spillway was built into an embankment with steep slopes, reinforcement of the spillway required a unique process. LRA used soil-cement to preserve and protect the spillway and provide protection for residents.
