Runway 14L/32R is a new 8,500’ commercial service runway. LRA was selected in early 1999 for this $75 million project, and provided design and construction administration services. The project also includes parallel and crossing taxiways, airfield lighting and signage, approach lights, instrument landing systems, 25,000' of storm sewer, pumping stations, and excavation of 1,000,000 CY of earth. Construction for Phase I was completed in 2001 and included a 5,000 ft by 150 ft runway, 2000 ft of connecting taxiways, storm sewer improvements and grading. Phase II extended the runway to 7,000 ft and included approach lighting and navigation aids. Phase II was completed in the spring of 2003. Phase III extended the runway to 8,500 feet and was completed in 2005.
Other work which is necessary as a part of the primary work includes grading, storm sewer and drainage, runway and taxiway marking, runway and taxiway edge and centerline lights, Category I Instrument Landing System consisting of a Glide Slope, Localizer, Distance Measuring Equipment (DME), and a Medium Intensity Approach Light System with Runway Alignment Indicator Lights (MALSR), ASOS relocation, LLWAS relocation, RVR relocation, seeding, and other miscellaneous work.
