Lamp Rynearson’s survey department was selected to perform a 3D topographic survey, rendering and visualization using our Cyrax 3D Laser Scanner and Reflectorless Total Station. Field technicians remotely scanned 5 existing buildings and 3 animal enclosures utilizing the 3D Laser Scanner. The remainder of the valley was surveyed with Total Station, achieving ¼ inch accuracy where a proposed walkway would be located. Lamp Rynearson then combined the collected field data from the scanner and the Total Station to create an AutoCad drawing of the valley with elevation contours and locations of all relevant features.

From this data, Lamp Rynearson also produced a seven-minute animation, which showed the new structure while touring through the proposed site. The animation provided the clients with a visualization of exactly how the expansion would appear when completed and allowed them to make changes or additions as they saw fit.

After showing the animation video to potential donors Dr. Simmons, Director of the Zoo, said, “ The bottom line is there is no doubt in my mind that having the 3D animation helped us substantially with two different donors. One, in simply convincing the donor, letting them visualize what we wanted to do. The other one, in shifting that donor’s enthusiasm from a future project that we want to do, to a current project we need to do. That 2nd donor is the single biggest donor on the project. There is no question in my mind that having animation really made a difference in our fundraising.”
